Kendo is a modern Japanese martial art of sword-fighting based on traditional Japanese swordsmanship, or Kenjutsu practiced by Samurai of Feudal Japan.
The kendo is practiced with a bamboo sword, wearing traditional Japanese clothing and protective armor. The armor, known as Bogu, is composed of a helmet, a breastplate, a pair of thick padded gauntlets and a lower body protector.
During a kendo match, the goal is to hit the opponent on the head, body or wrist, with the upper third of the shinai. The goals set by the practice of kendo is also the development of body awareness, spirit and strength of character.
